Zaf Naqui – Incoming President of FESSH (2026–2029)
I’m honoured to have been elected as the next President of FESSH. I’m grateful to the colleagues, peers, and mentors who supported this journey, and to all those committed to the future of hand surgery across Europe.
Over the past 12 years, I’ve had the privilege of serving FESSH in multiple roles: 5 years on the Executive Committee, Council member, Chair of Communications, contributor to the Green sub-group, and examiner for the EBHS. I’ve also led nationally within the BSSH, regionally as Chair of the North West Hand Society, and currently serve as Clinical Director for one of the UK’s largest combined ortho-plastic units. These experiences have shaped my collaborative, structured approach and long-term vision.
My focus for FESSH 2026–2029:
-
Structured education: unifying the textbook, webinars, diploma, and the FESSH Academy into a single learning pathway.
-
Stronger collaboration: connecting surgeons across borders through mentorship, peer observerships, and shared learning platforms.
-
A global voice: positioning FESSH as a leader in sustainable surgical education and sustainable global partnerships beyond Europe.
-
One Europe. One Standard: ensuring consistent, high-quality training and opportunity across all 29 member nations.
I’m proud that, for the first time, a surgeon from the United Kingdom has been entrusted with this role a reflection of FESSH’s unity, diversity, and forward-looking spirit.
In the year ahead, I will listen closely to colleagues across Europe as we prepare for the most connected decade in FESSH’s history. I look forward to shaping the future together with you – please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Warm regards,
Zaf Naqui
President Elect, FESSH (2026–2029)
