Ilse Degreef – Incoming Treasurer of FESSH (2026–2029)

I’m honoured to have been nominated as the next Treasurer of FESSH. I’m grateful to the colleagues and mentors who have supported me throughout my journey, and to the FESSH community for entrusting me with this responsibility.

As a full professor in orthopaedic and hand surgery at KU Leuven, I’ve had the privilege of combining clinical care with academic teaching and research. My involvement with FESSH began in 2004 through the Belgian Hand Group, whose support I deeply value. I’m proud to represent our country within this diverse and forward-looking federation.

Over the years, I’ve served as Council and Executive Committee member, Chair of the Relationship Committee, and educator in both the Foundation and Advanced Courses. These experiences have shaped my commitment to collaboration, transparency, and long-term thinking.

My focus for FESSH 2026–2029:

  • Financial transparency: continuing the professionalization of the treasurer’s role and ensuring clear, responsible financial management.

  • Sustainable investment: supporting education, research, and member development through thoughtful resource allocation.

  • Collaborative leadership: working closely with incoming president Zaf Naqui, the Executive Committee (ECOM), Council, Financial Committee, Office, and members of FESSH to strengthen the federation’s foundation and expand its reach across Europe—and beyond.

  • Continuity and care: building on the outstanding work of current treasurer Alex Lluch and ensuring a smooth transition.

FESSH has always been more than an organisation—it’s a community of passionate professionals committed to advancing hand surgery across borders. I look forward to listening, learning, and serving with integrity and openness.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out—I welcome your ideas and input as we shape the future together.

Warm regards,
Ilse Degreef
