Young European Hand Surgeons (YEHS)

YEHS is a growing community of young hand surgeons across Europe, supported by FESSH. We provide a platform for early-career professionals to connect, collaborate, and grow—both personally and professionally—within the field of hand surgery.

Our mission is to foster the next generation of hand surgeons through education, mentorship and leadership opportunities. YEHS brings together young professionals who are passionate about advancing their knowledge, contributing to the profession, and building lasting professional relationships across borders.

What We Do

The YEHS Committee is responsible for a wide range of initiatives designed to benefit and support young hand surgeons across Europe.

Our key activities include:

  • Quarterly YEHS Newsletter: Sharing updates, opportunities, webinars, and courses relevant to early-career hand surgeons.
  • Educational Workshops: Organizing events tailored to the needs of young surgeons, including exam-focused sessions.
  • Course Support: Providing subsidised access (via application) to high-quality educational events, including the FESSH Foundation Course.
  • Annual FESSH Congress: Leading the YEHS Session, co-chairing Free Paper Sessions, organizing a YEHS social event, coordinating speakers, proposing topics, and fostering networking opportunities.
  • Fellowship and Training Projects: Assisting in the organisation and promotion of fellowship opportunities and structured training initiatives.
  • Journal Contributions: Supporting the Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume), including exploring collaboration opportunities
  • Training Centres’ List: Maintaining and updating the official list of European hand surgery training centres  https://fessh.com/training-centers/
  • EBHS Exam Promotion: Actively raising awareness of and encouraging participation in the European Board of Hand Surgery (EBHS) Diploma Exam.

Chair of YEHS Committee

The Chair acts as the head of YEHS and chairs all association meetings. This role is central to guiding the strategy and direction of the group and to ensuring YEHS fulfils its mission.

Requirements:

The Chair of the YEHS Committee must either hold the European Board of Hand Surgery (EBHS) Diploma or be registered to sit the EBHS exam in Basel, Switzerland in 2026 at the time of application. However, by the start of the appointment as Chair of YEHS Committee, the candidate must have successfully obtained the EBHS Diploma, with the diploma awarded no later than 7th June 2026. This requirement reflects the educational leadership expected of the role.

Responsibilities of the Chair of the YEHS committee:

  • Leading the YEHS Committee and overseeing all activities
  • Chairing all official meetings of the association
  • Developing and maintaining a balanced and focused Advisory Board
  • Representing YEHS in FESSH and external engagements
  • Mentoring the incoming leadership and ensuring smooth transitions
