Zafar Naqui President of FESSH (2026–2029)

Zafar Naqui is a Consultant Hand & Wrist Surgeon at the Salford Royal Hand Centre, Manchester, UK, and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester. His clinical and academic interests include wrist reconstruction, thumb-base arthritis, hand trauma and surgical education. Within the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, he has served as Honorary Treasurer, Council Member, Communications Chair, Diploma Examiner and Tutor, and co-founded the cadaveric Masterclass programme.

Since 2014, he has held successive leadership roles within FESSH, including examiner for the European Board of Hand Surgery (EBHS) Diploma, Chair of the Communications Committee, FESSH Council and Executive Committee member, before being elected President. He also serves on the Journal of Hand Surgery (European) Committee of Management and has supported FESSH educational programmes, scientific meetings and the FESSH Academy Advanced Course.

As FESSH President, his priorities are to strengthen governance, advance education and training, foster collaboration and support the next generation of hand surgeons.
